She only knew: cute things, and flowers.

Abby wanted a birthday gift for the friend who had believed in her from the first day.

She didn’t know what. Finding it was our job.

Her friend’s name, on the book she’s reading. Design: Cozy Reader Planter by CozyCraftStudios.

How we found it

  1. We listenedWho Abby’s friend is, and what makes her smile.
  2. Denis searchedSeventeen ideas in five directions, each with its price.
  3. Ellie narrowed itTo the ones that fit Abby’s friend: her taste, her personality.
  4. Abby choseShe saw every idea, and picked Ellie’s favourite.
  5. We made itPrinted with “Sweet Monica” on the book, ready to give.

Printing took eight hours. Finding it took a week.

Four we couldn’t buy.

Each started as something someone said out loud.

None of them exists anywhere else.

She was about to buy a chess set.

Our first date.

She was learning chess and about to order a set online.

So I made one instead.

Designed piece by piece.
Dragons for the knights.
A parasol for the queen — Ellie has one in half her photos.

Then that same queen asked her something.

I printed her again in gold, with a scroll that pulls out of her hands.

The question was rolled up inside.

The same piece, printed once more.
The scroll comes out.

Then an audition needed a prop.

A bust of Freud, for a television series.

Denis is self-taping for a part in it: a preacher who lifts one.

He needed the prop, so he printed it.

Ten centimetres of psychoanalysis, in white PLA.

Is there something only one person would understand?

Then a three-year-old asked for Bi.

Bi is the coffee shop’s cat — he lives upstairs with us, and got used to the printer before we did.
The three-year-old on the second floor asked for a Bi of her own.
One photo of him lounging became a studio portrait, then a model.
The model was printed white, upstairs. Then the real one came to inspect his own first print.
Painted by hand until it was him — she has her Bi now, and he’s the cat at the top of this page.

What people said after

They held it first.

Everything here went to someone we know.

Their photos, not ours.

An orange dinosaur, a pink pig — and a Bi of her own.

They built two fidget toys for me and they were perfect! Exactly what I asked for and very durable. It’s been weeks and they are still in tact. I will be using this company again in the future.

A five-finger clicker, and a knitted capybara for her daughter.

We’re Denis and Ellie, a couple in Da Nang.

Denis prints and paints.

Ellie looks after the brand.

Denis + Ellie = Dellie

It started as gifts for friends.

They liked them, so here we are.

One printer at home.

Everything on this page came off it, one piece at a time.

Nothing waits in a box: you order, then we print.
